Question by : I never understood the whole fertility cycle thing…?
So, my periods have been *pretty* regular 26-29 day cycles.
The last day of my last period was Feb 13. I have actually been expecting my period this week, but no go. My boyfriend and I accidentally had unprotected sex on Mar 13. Now, even though it is near the END of my cycle (hopefully) do I still need to be worried about the chances of pregnancy? Also, why is my period later than usual this month? (We’ve had sex before, but ALWAYS with protection, unless something went wrong.) At this point, I’m not very worried, but I want to know the “danger zones”.

Answer by LynnEvery woman’s cycle is different so there is no set rule on when you ovulate every month so if you have unprotected sex at any point there is always a possibility for pregnancy. Question by sar: How sucessfull are ovulation predictor kits in helping you to conceive?
My husband and I are trying to get pregnant. We’ve been trying now for 6 months. I think I’m going to purchase a ovulation predictor kit this month to help us know which day’s i’m ovulation. I’m just curious for those of you who have used these kits, would you consider them succesful? If so, how long did it take you to conceive after using them? Thanks for your time and help.

Answer by EthelHigh fertility period is the days leading up to ovulation, sex to procreate works best if done for a week before ovulation, sex on the day of ovulation (when an ovum is released) is too late as the ovum only lives for 12-24 hours and sperm take ~24hours to travel from your cervix to the ovum.

Question by Karla S: I am using a saliva fertility kit and after ovulation I keep getting a “transitional” reading. What’s up?
I have been testing since the beginning of my cycle. I say distinct changes for ovulation and about a week later another “ovulation” since then everyday has been “transitional”. Has anyone had these results?

Answer by jilldaniel_wvThe saliva scopes ferning pattern are based on the amount of estrogen in your system. Estrogen rises right before and during ovulation then goes back down. So you get a strong ferning pattern then it goes away. About a week after ovulation estrogen starts to rise again, but this time not as high as during ovulation, so you get a slight ferning on the scope. When I used the scope it would go back down to no ferning at all about 2-3 days before I started my period.

My breasts are always sore before I start my cycle. I know this is a good sign of ovulation. Since they are sore and there is no chance of me being pregnant right now. (It is way too early to test) Does anyone know if it’s possible for my breasts to be sore now and also still get pregnant? Or is this a sign that this round of infertility drugs was unsuccessful? Anyone have the same experience?
I’m not due for my cycle for 2 more weeks…

some answers to my previoius question ( if a 42 day cycle affects fertility) suggested i track my basal body temperature to see if i do ovulate and perhaps find out how long my luteal phase is .. i have used a ovulation (saliva) kit that is positive for about 4 days … does this mean i ovulate??? or is it meant to be positive for longer then 4 days??

Answer by browneyedgirlI have found those saliva tests to not be accurate. I guess they work for some and not others?
Have you tried using any other method besides the saliva ferning kit?

I have been on 27-29 cycle but this month completely threw me off.
I started testing for LH Surge since day 11 using digital OPK and I test for it once a day. Only at the last of my third pack (yes, I tested 21 times), the last stick has a smiley face. That would mean my ovulation was two weeks late. CM was going from clear & liquid, to less, to none, to clear & liquid again throughout the time I was testing, until I got smiley face. So, hubby and I tried for another child.
However, there is no clear thermal shift for the entire testing period and even within the first 6 days after the smiley face.
Then, on the 7th after LH Surge (yes, that soon), I started to bleed quite a bit – normal blood colour – not brown.
